Testing

Although many electrical fires are caused by faulty appliances rather than the electrical installation, a properly installed and well-maintained electrical system could save lives.
Cables, switches, socket-outlets and other equipment deteriorate with prolonged use, so they all need to be checked and necessary replacements or repairs made in good time.

Every property should have its electrical installation tested and certified periodically, with the frequency depending on the building’s age, use and general condition.

A Periodic Inspection Report will reveal if electrical circuits are being overloaded, find potential hazards within the electrical installation, identify defective work, highlight any lack of earthing or bonding, and test the fixed wiring of the installation.

This includes checking fuse or circuit breaker ratings and testing the RCD
to ensure they trip under fault conditions. The outcome from the Periodic Inspection Report will establish the overall condition of the electrical installation. It will tell you whether it is satisfactory for continued use and will detail any remedial work that may be needed,
graded by importance with a recommended timescale.

We help a number of clients to conduct periodic testing and inspections on properties. These can be carried out at changes in tenancy or at regular five–to-ten year intervals during the life of an installation and help to establish the condition of an electrical installation and detail any remedial work that may be necessary. In each case we aim to be prompt and efficient throughout.

When a project involves the alteration, extension or adaptation of an existing circuit we ensure that regardless of the size of the task a relevant minor works certificate will be issued to accompany your records of the installation documentation and keep everything current. This Minor works certificate confirms the work is compliant with the requirements of BS 7671 and details the extent of the works.

PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING
We also carry out Portable appliance testing (PAT) which is required annually.

Depending on the condition, use and age of the installation, the engineer will recommend a maximum safe time period between inspections.
